Daniel Craig was forced to withdraw from his Broadway performance in Macbeth after he tested positive for Covid on Saturday.

The 54-year-old actor pulled out of the show less than two hours before it started, via an announcement on the show’s Twitter page.

The statement read: “Macbeth’s evening and evening performances have been canceled because Daniel Craig has just tested positive for COVID this afternoon.

Just the day before, the BAFTA candidate had ensured compliance with Covid’s recommendations while disguised as he entered the venue.

In addition to the black face covering, he wore a brown fleece jacket and tan pants, while he wore a flat blue hat over his gaze.

In a revival of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, the James Bond star stars alongside Ruth Negga, who made her Broadway debut playing Lady Macbeth.

The film will be directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold. Barbara Broccoli, who produces James Bond films with her brother, is a producer.

Daniel’s representatives have been contacted for comment by MailOnline.

Daniel was on stage in 2013 in a revival of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal in front of his wife, Rachel Weisz, directed by Mike Nichols.

He also starred opposite Hugh Jackman in the 2009 movie A Steady Rain. Sam directed it in the 2016 off-Broadway production of Othello alongside David Oyelowo.
