“The important thing is that we were able to get to the next round and (secure) a very important win against a very difficult opponent.”
Fernandes warned that Portugal should be at their best in their final group game on Friday against South Korea, with enough points to secure top spot in Group H.
Fernandez added, “We know that we will find in front of us a very organized team with tremendous skills, as we have seen in their recent matches.”
“We played at different times and that allowed us to watch South Korea’s games. Our goal is to win every game, and we have one game ahead of us.”
Portugal coach Fernando Santos chose to praise the entire squad rather than focus on Fernandez.
“I think it’s the result of the team’s work,” Santos said. “If the team does not play well, the player himself will not perform well.
“I think in the first two games the team played well. Diogo Costa (Portugal goalkeeper) made two important saves, so I don’t think we should focus on individual players.”
