Google announces Pixel 6a w/Tensor processor for $449

during the Annual I/O Developers Conference Google has officially launched the affordable Pixel 6a phone which acts as an entry-level model for the Pixel 6 series and comes powered by the company’s flagship Tensor processor.

The large 6.1-inch device comes with a number of hardware changes to help lower entry prices, but it still retains the design aesthetics of its flagship siblings – the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Glass and metal are eschewed in favor of a recycled aluminum frame and polycarbonate backplate. Matte black side rails make a step down from the Pixel 6 series.

You’ll find a 2,340 x 1,080-pixel FHD+ OLED display with a maximum 60Hz display on the front, and the Pixel 6a is the first affordable phone from Google to include an in-display fingerprint scanner for biometric security. The screen is also coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3which is the same cover as in Pixel 5a phone since last year.

Although the Pixel 6a was launched as a mid-range alternative to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, the device uses Google’s flagship Tensor processor. Like the flagship models, the Pixel 6a also includes the Titan M2 security processor, making the device one of the most secure Android phones available.

The Tensor is paired with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, along with a 4,306mAh battery that supports fast charging. Google claims up to 72 hours on a single charge when using Extreme Battery Saver mode. Unfortunately, there is no room for a 3.5mm headphone jack for the first time on the Pixel A-series model.

The rear camera setup takes a noticeable step down on the main 50 Megapixel ISOCELL GN1 sensor used in Pixel 6 and 6 Pro phones. You’ll find a 12.2MP wide-angle and 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter which we believe is the Sony IMX363 and IMX386 respectively. On the front, the center-slotted hole hosts an 8-megapixel Sony IMX355 selfie camera.
