Liverpool agree to sign Darwin Nunez in a deal worth up to 100 million euros

Liverpool agreed a deal to sign the Benfica striker Darwin Nunez In a transfer worth up to 100 million euros, sources told ESPN.

ESPN reported on Friday that both clubs are in advanced talks over a deal, and sources confirmed that Liverpool are preparing to break the transfer record to sign the striker.

According to ESPN sources, Nunez will sign a five-year contract at Anfield, and has left Uruguay to travel to England to undergo a medical.

Sources told ESPN that an agreement was reached on Saturday between the two clubs worth 75 million euros, plus 25 million euros in additions.

Liverpool witnessed competition from Manchester United and Arsenal to land the striker.

According to ESPN sources, Nunez is keen to play the Champions League regularly, which has put Liverpool ahead in the race to sign him.

The upcoming deal could have an impact on the future Sadio Manewhich attracted the interest of Bayern Munich, as Liverpool rejected two offers from the German League champions for the striker.

Nunez, who joined Benfica in September 2020, was the Portuguese league’s top scorer last season, adding some impressive performances in the Champions League, and ending the year with 34 goals in 41 games.

The striker began his football career with Uruguayan club Penarol before moving to Spanish second-division side Almeria in 2019, where he scored 16 goals in 32 matches. Almeria will receive 20% of the profits from Nunez transfer.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised Nunez after his side’s Champions League quarter-final clash with Benfica in April, saying that Nunez was “really good and has a great career ahead of him”.
